Service Notice - Bar and Hospitality
Posted on 29th November 2024 at 13:08
Imagine walking into a bar and there weren’t any bar staff! Or into a restaurant without waiters! What sort of service could we expect? None!!!
It goes without saying, that we are not going to be able to order drinks and food if nobody is serving!! Which doesn’t make for a great time!!!
Well, what if they were there all along, but we just didn’t see them!
Sounds far fetched?
When customers walk into a bar or restaurant, they take it for granted that staff will be there to serve their drinks and food, so they don’t really take any notice of them!
In other words, they don’t really see them! They would only take notice if they weren’t there!!
Front of House staff deserve a lot of respect, appreciation and admiration.
They give up weekends, have to be nocturnal, are on their feet a lot and work long hours. And, particularly at this time of year, they miss out on the fun of being with friends and family, so that their customers can!
Excellent front of house staff treat their customers as special. They love what they do and strive to give 100% service.
This is despite the challenges they encounter, such as intoxicated customers, being shouted at, unruly groups, people refusing to pay their bill, customers fighting with each other, customers refusing to leave, refusing to show ID to name but a few!
One of the biggest challenges though is being treated as though they are invisible. Waiting staff taking orders and customers not acknowledging them, or even looking at them and bar staff having to put up with being whistled at, having fingers snapped at them, negative comments between a group made about them as if they weren’t there.
Despite this, they will do the best they can for their customers, because they enjoy working with people, in spite of the challenges.
We need to serve notice! We should treat front of house staff as they deserve! With respect and appreciation for the long hours and hard work they put in!
We should acknowledge our waiting staff when they are taking our orders with a smile and a thank you! We should show a bit of patience if bar staff are very busy and not able to serve us straight away. We should give front of house staff the understanding and patience they often give us!
So let’s just make sure that we are serving them as well, not with food and drink but with notice and gratitude.
